Now (21-7-07) there are 37 members registered on DescentiaPedia, but only 4 have posted real content. A few members names I recognized from community forums, but then there are usersnames that appear to be random number/letter combinations. When they first showed up I was concerned they might be spammers but nothing was posted. Some time later a few of them started posting spam. Now it's a few pages every few days. I am looking at some of the ideas here to control that, but many of the pages are confusing, and don't seem to have been updated in a while.
- The next Wikka release (1.1.7) will provide the ability to control logins and spam. Some of these features are already available in the WikkaSVN trunk version. You might also be interested in setting up a FreeCap captcha login page (you can check one out I set up on the OpenNIC wiki).
Thanks for the quick answer... the spam is not a big problem, yet, so I will likely wait until 1.1.7 is released. ( I am currently using 1.1.6.2)
- Guess I should have knocked on wood as wrote that... later that day I checked and had 4 pages 'spamdalized', this morning 4 more... easy enough to restore, but very anoying and throws of the 'recent changes' list.
- Shortly after I wrote that, I noticed they spammed the same few pages so I set the ACL to me or the page owner. I have not had a single spam since! (This time I will knock on wood ;) )
Another issue I've noticed here, when I edit this page and go to save I occasionaly get the 'someone else is editing' notice... If someone else is editing when I start editing shouldn't I get that message imediatly? Or, if they start editing while I am editing, shouldn't they get that message?
- The error message is displayed only after the page is submitted for saving. Locking the page when editing might be an interesting feature...you should submit this as a feature request in the issues tracker! --BrianKoontz
